This account, in both English and Spanish, of the beginnings and development of the Mennonite medical, education, and church planting work in Puerto Rico from 1943 to 1981 was written by one of the key participants. As a member of the La Plata Mennonite project from 1943 to 1946, and as director from 1948 to 1952, Justus Holsinger was ideally placed to observe conditions in Puerto Rico which he described in his 1952 book "Serving Rural Puerto Rico." Holsinger returned to Puerto Rico in 1969 on sabbatical to study the transformations that had taken place on the Island in the intervening seventeen years. His book.
